How is a wood-stove good for the environment?
With increasing fuel prices and concerns about the environment, the interest
in the use of renewable and sustainable fuels is growing along with the
recognition of the carbon savings that can be achieved by using wood fuels
in correctly installed and efficient appliances. This along with
a resurgence in interest for the use of solid mineral and wood based fuels
has seen an enormous growth in the wood-burning stove market.
Wood and biomass fuels can contribute considerably to reducing emissions of greenhouse
gases and the growing use of wood-burning and multi-fuel appliances is helping
to achieve these reductions and secure a low carbon future for the UK. To

A wood-burning stove with an ‘Air flow control system’ and well seasoned
wood will produce low CO2 emissions and generate fantastic heat…the more
efficiently a fire burns, the less CO2 is created.
The Swan mark
The Swan mark is the Nordic ecolabel and a stove carrying the Swan ecolabel is a sound environmental choice.
The environmental requirements for stoves imposed by the Swan ecolabel are highly stringent. The tests are performed by independent laboratories and updated every four years to keep in line with environmental, technical and scientific developments.
NIBE are very committed to ensuring that their stoves do not negatively
impact the environment or your local neighbourhood, hence all of the Handol
and Contura stoves carry the Swan mark.
